I believe that homes reflect the identity and character of their inhabitants. Even people living in the same building change the soul of a space by adding something from themselves to their homes. Each home has its own character, its own world. The word “Âlem,” of Arabic origin means “world” or “universe”. In fact, every human being is a unique Alem and we can only view this Alem as much as it is reflected outward. However, there is much more inside. In the same way the lights spilling out of the windows of houses at night give us a clue about the inside. In this piece, through these windows, I wanted to highlight different lives with various color harmonies. While doing this, I chose to use the Battal Ebru technique from the art of marbling. Each page of the book presents a different Alem. So, which is yours?
